Windows Vista to start and shut down in 3 seconds

According to Microsoft, your upcoming Windows Vista is going to boot up and shut down faster than you coud ever imagine.

Switching it on will be like turning on your television, you get the display within 2 to 3 seconds. It works by processing the login scripts and startup programs and services in the background.

Whoa, that’s impressive, Microsoft. But I don’t get the point. For my Windows XP machine, I get to see the desktop pretty quickly, but the system is almost not usable for another minute or two because it has many things to load in the background.

Unless Windows Vista is going to use stealth technology that the users almost don’t feel the speed penalty caused by the loading of background processes, otherwise I don’t really see what’s so great about it.

It’ll have to do a hell of a lot more than that to impress me.

Maybe it’s just displaying a desktop screenshot within 3 seconds so that you think it’s finished loading :D:D

BeOS 4 was the only full GUI OS I know of that would fully boot in under 20 seconds. Ah, I miss good old BeOS.
