I think my new sibling looks ugly…I look waaay better….Plus I’m definately more reliable…My reputation I have held through all these years…

  2. 2 monkeyjoke

savvy or whatever u call it. this car is high cost of maintainance, believe me!!. well, the car use the Renault engine (Renault Clio = very bad reputation (european wanna be!!, cehh!!), which most likely have Very Low re-sale value, engine parts is expensive and it is manufactured outside Malaysia, there again the radiator need a mix of distilled water + coolant, by how much, hmmm. SOHC engine is an old engine, nowadays cars are going for DOHC which delivers more power with low consumption and VVT (or DVVT in MyVy), really help to boost the power with VERY low fuel consumption. still wanna buy SAVVY, i’d rather say SAVVY = SAVE U’R MONEY 4 MYVY

  3. 3 Anonymous

You are right monkeyjoke. I just hate the damn car just launshed by …. BTW I really don’t know who he is!!! This proton crap should have never existed in this world at the first place.

  4. 4 Anonymous

I don’t understand you guys, why can’t you say at least it’s a good effort from proton, it is another typical malaysian who always won’t have a good word its local car manufacturer…

    Malaysia Boleh

  5. 5 Anonymous

If you said SOHC is old tech, there are well-known branded cars still using SOHC tech, go n check out Honda , Benz n etc bro. SOHC and DOHC have their own engine preferences.

  6. 6 Gibberish

its not that we hate local cars..but for the newborn babies, we admired MyVi better than Savvy…i cant see y i should not spend my money on MyVi like the ads said.

  7. 7 Anonymous

oh come on, after seeing MYVI and SAVVY. apparently MYVI is much value for money! and i have seen the unit, believe it or not. MYVI looks much more solid. while the proton CEO tengku mahalil trying to make up story on how strong the car bone is (even without air bag). That’s total lame excuses ! They know they losing out to MYVI, time-to-market, features, VALUE FOR MONEY ( PRICE / VALUE RATIO). how to compete? HOWEVER, i’m pretty sure still have buyerS, remember the car proton JUARA? Car like this also got supporter, not to say savvy lah, may the force be with u.

  8. 8 vig

has proton released any crash test statistics for this tough car?
If they havent, then its all marketing talk about being tough?

  9. 9 Anonymous

I think both the cars sucks…the designers must be “Bangkrupt” out of ideas & a bunch of copy cats…never have any creativity…
As you can see very clearly the so called SAVVY’s frontage looks like the BMW’s 7 series outlook…isn’t that embarassing…..and the word SAVVY, in my opinion, sounds like the Chinese word “Swei” = You are so “swei”.
Don’t you think that the MyVy look like a “kereta kebal” or a “kereta keranda” thats what my western friends think what it looks like.:-)

am eager to wait for cherry and to listen to you the proton haters. if you say cherry is better, obviously you have big noise macam tong kosong. the fact is you people do not know where to position yourself in your own country. you are merely followers of trend, as if it is not cool not to condemn proton. good malaysian will support own our products - “support” here means not blindly praise proton but to give constructive inputs as what French and Italian people do to their national car. if you dont like to be malaysian who supports our own products, find other country that can accept you and your farewell is much awaited…..

p/s been to UK and surprisingly found that waja (impian) and gen2 are very well accepted. How to explain that, huh?

  11. 11 Anonymous

Hallo…Have you own a Proton Tiara yourself? Own one and experience it yourself first before making your comments. BTW, Protons sold in industralised countries like UK are of higher specs than in Malaysia. Ask yourself again, why are there no proton cars sold in the USA? Protons can’t even make it past the safety test stage! Ask Proton themselves!

  12. 12 Anonymous

    good comment

  13. 13 Anonymous

Myvi vs Savvy….I’ll put my money on Myvi…Proton can’t design shit. Juara, Waja, Gen-2….sucks. Now Savvy…looks like an in bred of Waja & Gen-2 which is not a good idea…
Would have prefered to buy proton cars if they had better designs, unfortunately continental cars and Japanese cars offer the best designs.

for the benefit of those who are still ignorance why proton could make its way to US. It is not quality, it is a SABOTAGE, the same way they sabotage our palm oil and rubber products… buka mata besar-besar

  20. 20 Anonymous

perodua is no longer malaysian car, dear. the name remain ours, the ownership is not anymore…

  21. 21 Anonymous

just follow your instinct and not advices with bad faith. Proton has been in the market for 20 years. doesn’t it deserves commendable appraisals. If its cars are really crap, you wont see proton saga still running on the road. Majority accept proton cars as they are reliable, cheap and easy to maintain, exactly the same reason why people prefer nissan 120y before proton saga came on the road. Look for the balance. Just remember that buying other than proton cars will not spare you from problems too… as happened to my 2001 Carnival.

  22. 22 Anonymous

ya la..those all proton haters…they don’t deserve to live in malaysia…..not to condenm…but to give constructive critics..

  23. 23 Anonymous

Oi moron, most japanese cars and europeans too cannot pass US standards: have you seen a citroen in the US recently, or a Vios?

  24. 24 Anonymous

having seen the inside of both cars, Savvy is way better! MYVI’s dashboard and other plasticky parts are made from materials even a cheap toy maker won’t use!

  25. 25 Anonymous

Cherry? that’s something you put on top of cakes/cocktails…definitely not a car! Cars have visious names, like Jaguar, or Puma or something like that. You want to be a fruit? Buy a cherry! The Chinese manufacturers just copy off some other car’s design in TOTAL and try to flog it off as their own. At least Tata and Proton try harder!…and BTW, have you guys noticed that KIA is Killed In Action in military speak?

  26. 26 Anonymous

Buy Savvy (Samy):) no need to pay toll!

  27. 27 Anonymous

Fuck off! I have a Nissan Sunny and IT IS SHIT!

  28. 28 Anonymous

The chinese have words that sound similar to something else in any other language! I would rename the cars as “8888″ then the chinese would buy in in bulk! I know I would hehehehe….

  29. 29 Anonymous

You must be a Perodua salesman! I have driven a Clio in Singapore for the past three years; and there is no problem at all! None whatsoever! Where did you get this silly idea that SOHC is bad anyway? There is less strain in a SOHC engine than a DOHC; SOHC engines have less wear and tear!

  30. 30 Anonymous

Go to the nearest showroom lads! It looks much, much better in real life than in the ads! Better build quality than that myvi shit from perodua and that picanto hit from that korean companya whatsisname KIA

  31. 31 Anonymous

typo:- I meant Picanto Shit, not Hit. Sorry

  32. 32 Anonymous

Perodua=shit cars! Proton way better dey! I have both makes, and I know lah!

Proton has better quality than Perodua (nee Toyota).. dont joke lah.. will the power window still work after three months.. or the dashboard still in one piece.. 13 years is a long time to keep promise on quality..

  34. 34 Anonymous

we are malaysian. and of course we support our own products. but proton is making bold statements that their product surprass german/british standards. and how can you believe that when they dont even beat asian cars like hondas/toyotas/nissan cars?

actually they set their claims too high. and all their products in reality doesnt live up to their said expectations.

that is why u can see proton is changing to practical cars like perodua. and from my perspective, perodua is doing well with their practical cars. it doesnt matter if their products derived from daihatsu, as long as they dont make claims that their products surprass german..justl like proton cars.

a normal people would say ‘lah, honda/toyota pun tak dapat lawan, lagi mau lawan kereta hebat mcm bmw/mercedes’

  35. 35 Anonymous

    You all wrong….

My house own 3 units of perodua & 2 units of proton.
The 3 units of perodua no problem… (the oldest is 7++ years)

2 units proton, always give problem. No permanent solutions. Repaired, solved, repaired, solved. Until when???? And the oldest models is 3 years ++ only

The only better proton car i can see is Perdana V6 only….
No quality, laussy QA & QC check also….
    Their demand is too high.

proton claim savvy body as strong as bmw 5 series……..
come on, 40k car as good as 600k car?
i must say…. proton damn good at making joke!
at least show the crash test result
and i always hear complain for proton cars
but havent heard any complain for perodua cars
    so obviously….. perodua much better
and the only reason you see lots of proton in malaysia is not because of their reliabilty, but it just because that imported car are just to expensive no thanks to proton

  37. 37 Anonymous

PM ask Malaysian to leave Proton alone. Proton will then virtually have the 1 - 2 litre segment to itself to fiddle with. Motor players asked to compete elsewhere. But why the heck is Proton muscling its way into Perodua territory with its savvy. I think the motoring public had enough of this nonsense. It’s about time that Proton realise that they cant make and sell cars and must get help. Can’t you all see that Proton need the crutches, maybe forever.

if u think u so smart, go design a car on yr own la… cannot do don’t complain other people’s design.!!!

can u imagine if there’s no PROTON, we won’t have so many local manufacturer!!! it helps the economy u know… the company u are working with now probably making some parts for proton too… u stupid… support our own country la… u eat and shit in malaysia too!!!

  40. 40 Anonymous

for my point of view before you compare proton and perodua. you must understand that both car manufacturer are in two different position. Proton begining with the production of Waja, Gen-2 and latest Savvy, we should be proud with our own malaysian capability in planning, designing, producing and trying to sell our own products. Proton currently don’t need to pay any royalty to the foreign entity such as the japanese for the design and technology.

For Perodua, yes it true we heard less complaint on the quality and the impressive design but do you know that the model produce by perodua are just like a cut and paste from the japanese’s daihatsu. Perodua is still depend on foreign technology to came out with a design. they pay for royalties for design of craftwork, engine components and interior component. this scenario of paying royalties for the design and etc. is an old story of proton when the tie up with mitsubishi.

My conclusion, i am proud with the effort made by Proton in producing our own national car for the sake of national pride. at least, they initiate an early step in pushing malaysia toward as a develop country. the main weakness in proton is not the products (Vehicles) actually it’s the after sales service which includes the knowledge of the sales people and the technical staffs in the products.

  41. 41 Anonymous

Proton doing OK? come on.. be realistic.. so much of taxpayers money and patience was given to Proton for so long and they came up with these craps.. Stop leaving in tidak apa dreamworld.. the worlds is whizzing by in supersonic mode.. time for them to wake up.. Malaysian do not want Lotus derived supension and Alfa copied frontage.. but power windows that work and door trims dont feel like toilet seat..

    From AUTOCAR

    Proton GEN-2 Hatchback 1.6 GLS 5dr
    Test Date 31/08/2004 09:00:00
    Price when new £9,595

    Gen-erally very bad

Just how badly do you want a brand-new car? What are you prepared to sacrifice to ensure brand-spanking newness; that untouched, gleaming, never-been-driven feeling?

If you want a new car desperately – make that pathologically desperately – we would still struggle to recommend a Gen2, Proton’s new Wira replacement. It’s that disappointing.

It has its good points, so let’s get those out of the way first. It won’t take long. And if you happen to be hell-bent on buying a brand-new car and a nearly new Focus won’t do, these are the only points you’ll remember anyway.

It’s good value, at least for interior kit. The 1.6 GLS model you see here comes with air conditioning and a Blaupunkt sound system with a 10-disc CD changer, and retails at £9595. It has dual airbags as standard, but no electric mirrors. You’ll need to opt for the £10,595 GSX to get those; that version also comes with standard side airbags and anti-lock brakes. So you don’t get anti-lock on lower models, which seems a glaring oversight in 2004.

Compare the price with those of its similarly specced rivals and the Gen2 GLS is good value. Rover 25 1.6 SEi: £12,795. Ford Focus 1.6 LX: £13,300. Honda Civic 1.6 SE: £13,013. Vauxhall Astra 1.6 16v Life: £12,495. The Proton undercuts them all effortlessly.

It looks good, too. Styled with help from Proton-owned Lotus, it’s a well-proportioned, well-detailed car and is a pleasure to view from every angle. The nose is neat, with none of the grille paraphernalia that sometimes blights new cars from the Far East, and the rear lights are equally handsome. The dash is well designed, too, with a stylish Lotus-esque centre console, nicely integrated stereo and a neat instrument cowling.

The car rides and handles satisfactorily, with no obvious vices as long as you don’t expect Elise-like fun. The cheap Sime tyres lose grip very early in the proceedings as the car howls toward the verge with terminal understeer. The ride jiggles a little too much on washboard ripples, but is otherwise comfortable, with decent damping. The gearchange is quick and direct, and is the best of the controls.

However, the driving position is so awkward it borders on the bizarre. You sit far too high, with no way to lower the seat other than a tight knob which only lowers the front edge of the cushion. And the steering wheel – a hard black plastic affair with all the tactile delicacy of a granite slab – won’t rise high enough, leaving itself on your lap, between your knees. Tall drivers willl find the top of the instruments are obscured by the top of the wheel, which is unforgivable in a 21st-century car.

The problems don’t end there. The build quality inside is nasty, even for a car at this price. The plastic single-piece door trims, the centre bin with its flimsy hinges, the dastardly little swivelling cup holder and the switches and plastics are all so low-rent that they’re almost squatting. Combine that with a noisy cabin and you have a distinctly ordinary motoring experience, even for the money.

The 110bhp ‘Cam Pro’ 1.6 has adequate power and torque, but all the thrust is delivered at the top end, where it becomes extremely thrashy and makes you reach for ear defenders. It has the aural delight of a toilet extractor fan – the loudest one you’ve ever heard. This is a very poorly insulated engine.

The Gen2 very nearly became Rover’s next medium car. Good job for Rover that deal never happened.

  46. 46 Steven

mind u….didnt u see the video presentation at all proton showroom about the CAR?? WE do not claim ANYTHING without RECORD!! Pls think 1st…if not for Proton, do u think most of Malaysian can afford to own CAR?? If u really LOOK into wat Proton’s Engineer had done, then u will appreciate our efforts! one more question, R U a PERODUA SALESMAN? they claim they had sent 80 engineers to Japan to “develop” THE car..but the truth is all the critical dimension and structure of the car was designed by Japanese! wat they did was to change the headlamp! I am not anti-Perodua…afterall they r our 2nd national car manufacturer…but as their CEO said, PERODUA WILL NEVER produce their own vehicle….
For ur info, PERODUA only owns PERODUA 49%…the remaining are Japanese. If we ourselves DO not PROTON, WHO else will? WE spent close to RM500 mil to design Savvy from SCRATCH!! mind u…wat our competitor did was to spent RM200 mil just to get the BLUEPRINT!!

If u r still not convinced on the rigidity of Savvy body structure, u can contact me ANYTIME!! PROTON is capable of taking over LOTUS & MV Agusta and WE r STILL in- control of OUR own NATIONAL car company. Y do u think WE spent so much money buying these world class company? have u test driven SAVVY?? if u havent, pls drive it 1st….or mayb u just another J**K who pretends to know about car but the fact is u dun know a DAMN sh*t!!!

  47. 47 steven

i agree that our salespersons’ knowledge bout car is low…but that is the truth bout Malaysian…unlike foreign countries, ppl there always open their mind when it comes to these sort of thing…however, we r trying to fix our weaknesses…lastly thanx for supporting PROTON…

  48. 48 steven

1st of all, if u have the money off course u 1 2 get urself a BMW rite? Y? bcos it is very comfortable…n afterall its a driver’s car…wats the use of owning a luxurious car that handles like a BUS?? that is y PROTON bought LOTUS…

  51. 51 photong hater

My friend… Do you really think that Sotong Sawi is that strong? I want to see you personally drive one into a brick wall at 100kmh and see whether you land yourself in mortuary or not. Just by looking and the ads projected by photong already tells that Savvy is a big failure. No airbags makes Sawi a no-no. My goodness, even Myvi has airbags in it. How about an auto Sawi? When is it coming out? a few months later? Myvi has auto, which is more convenient to drive around malaysia streets compared to Sawi’s manual. I think by the time an auto Sawi is launched, It can kiss its butt goodbye because Myvi HAS oredi beaten it. Atleast for perodua, they have the brains to “bekerjasama” with the japanese to produced Myvi. Look at Sawi, using a french engine. Oh ya, what happened to the famed Campro? Did it burst into flames? Why isn’t Sawi using it? Too much defects? No wonder the Photong Hantu failed last year on the day it was launched in 17 Feb 2004. Lotus and MV Agusta world class companies???? I think you are quite outdatedlah. What Lotus is good is only in tuning cars. Even their famed Elise is using a Toyota engine replacing the previous Rover engine. Do you think that malaysians will fully use the perfect lotus tuning in their Baja, Batria Noti, Gentu or Sawi? You don’t expect mak ciks to perform 180 degrees turn around the shopping mall car park, do you? Do you think that all this socalled tuning can save more lives than producing an airbag in you photong cars? I think without Photong, Malaysians will also be able to own cars with more choices. When photong came in 1985, Alot of car companies stop distrubuting different choices of cars because of the competition of the Potong Saga. What happened to Mitsubishi? Before photong came in, We, malaysians could owned cars such as Mitsu Galant, Colt, Lancer and so on. When photong came in, they also brought in taxes so that photong can compete more fairly. Don’t talk about patrotisme, please. That is all rubbish that we all learn in school. Do we really buy a photong just to support the country? Nonsense. If like that, why don’t all the ministers plus Agung use national cars as their everday car and weekend cars. Why don’t ask them to sell off those BMs and Mercs in their car porch and replace it with Perdanas and Gentus. Now, you are introducing the photong Sawi which is famed for its rigidness but how rigid the car is, it still is a stupid car because the quality sucks. The plastics use is something like the plastic chairs and tables used in mamak shops. Malulah.

i agree with you…everybody knows…perodua producing better quality car than proton…no need to argue much laaa…just wait n see…how the savvy positioned in the market…myvi booking already 21000…than sawi launched…takut kaaa…dah la silap strategy…gonna see one more gajah putih after this..second gajah putih after tiara…kikikiii…

Are you another one of the two TM’s croonies. You also quarrel with Rafidah, ah..

  62. 62 Anonymous

I agree with Dato’ Seri Rafidah comments that there is something not right in Proton. You see the result of Malaysia’s foray into making our own car. We are paying a ludicrously high price for a lump of scrap metal from yesterdays’ technology. Any decent cars of current technology are priced out of most of the population. Secondly, we are being forced to tolerate a bunch of failed managers who bleed the country out of its resources. Then we are requested to be patriotic and buy their useless products. Alfa-dana is a prime example. The decision to move into car making is noble and should be applauded, but the implementation craps. Typical Malaysian.

  63. 63 Anonymous

I agree with your comments about Proton. I, myself owned a Perodua car but I don’t feel proud of it because it is not truly Malaysian Car. The reason people buy Perodua car is because they can’t afford to buy Japanese cars, for example the latest Myvi, people like it not because of the Perodua, but the style of that car is similar to that Honda Jazz (popular among youngster nowadays)or the latest Suzuki Swift and also the bodykit for Myvi is available from TRD (bodykit from Daihatsu Boon & Toyota Passo)and I’m sure that people who buy the Myvi will not using the original bodykit. First thing in their mind is to ‘make-up’ a little bit, for example, the rim have to change to sport rims, skirting and so on..just like Kancil, Kenari, Kelisa etc. but not for Savvy. If you people love Perodua, why not using it’s original bodykit than wasting money to buy expensive bodykit.

If compared Savvy with Myvi, I will choose Savvy because it is Malaysian on the outside rather than Japanese inside out. I think Proton had learnt something from their past and not making their mistake in producing car like the fogettable Tiara. Give them a chance.

For me, both Proton and Perodua produces good car but the thing is, just like you said, Proton should be more professional about their after sales service which I heard a lot of complaint regarding their vehicle.

  64. 64 Anonymous

Excellent job? Kerbaushit! They just copy and paste and not producing a car even a simple Kancil. I own a Perodua Kembara, until now they cannot verify my car’s problem (squeking sound inside the rear brake). You know what they said, “Selagi tak merbahaya, tak pa..” Is it excellent job? Recently, I want to trade-in my Kembara with Myvi and you know what they said, “Kembara ka? Wa.. ini kereta tak dak value, minyak makan kuat..” So, what do you think? People from Perodua condemn product from Perodua and you people always ‘thumbs up’ to Perodua. Like the ‘Alien vs Predator’, whoever wins, we loose.

Yes, I agree, even if you own a BMW also you got problem when you do not know how to maintain the car. I own Proton Tiara, until now (7 years already) that car runs smoothly without problems. The secret is…service regularly. You all people hard to take out the money when it come to service.

‘My first Lotus’ for under £6k?

Budget Malaysian car brand Proton is extending its range in the UK with a baby brother for the Focus rival Gen-2. The Proton Savvy is already on sale in Malaysia and is due to hit the UK this autumn, aimed directly at the Fiat Panda, Kia Picanto and the new Chevrolet Matiz, with prices expected to start at under £6000.

Power comes from a 1149cc 16-valve engine producing 74bhp and 77lb ft of torque and mated to a five-speed manual transmission. It takes the Savvy from rest to 62mph in 12.6sec and on to a 106mph maximum. Healthy figures for a city car, but its makers are making bold claims for the Savvy, Proton CEO Tengku Tan Sri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff referring to it as ‘my first Lotus’ and ‘the car that’ll give you a taste of what it’s like to drive one of the world’s best handling vehicles’.

  68. 68 Anonymous

All this shit is because the government is overprotecting Proton to the point that the consumer are deprived of value-for-money auto products. Squeaking in the rear brake of your Kembara is nothing compared to failed power windows, squeaky dahsboard, useless blaupunks & etc.. in Protons.

  69. 69 Anonymous

I ‘ve heard too many bad things about PROTON cars and their management. For the cars. I may say that they are good cars as compared to others. My sister-in law newly bought Kancil stranded at Kesas tol just because the gear shift lever could not be shifted to the 1st gear position. The car has to be pushed. Then another story, my good friend’s Kancil ~ the headlining fell down. My brother also faced the same problem…but they never made noise to public. My sister bought Kia Rio…you know what happen?…the air-cond not functioning after less than 6 months on the road. Recently she complaint about the gearbox…but my her husband is driving Proton Wira Aeroback without such problem…Nahhh now do you still say PROTON not good. To me all car manufacturers have their pwn Qc and Std to comply. I don’t agree if all of us give bad statement about PROTON cars…..but PROTON management…maybe.. I was told that, the Head of IT is not an IT man. The Head of HR is not HR qualified person…just because she/he is fluent in English with a little accent in Mat Salleh slang…. find out lah!!! apa dah jadi

  70. 70 Anonymous

Huh…bro very carefull on Cherry. I ve seen the car. Very bad in appearance. Worse than Iswara. Very cheap….yes but must be very careful with he quality. This car is another Malaysian failure….like the Comel Scooter..buy one get one free as warranty…

  71. 71 Anonymous

Many people hate Proton just because 1) Proton cause other affordable cheap import cars become expensive due to taxes. 2) Proton is greedy of making high margin. In my opinion, Proton cars may sell very well if the OTR price for Proton cars for Iswara =RM27,000++ for Wira RM32,000 iii) Perdana = RM87,000 iv) Juara = RM 34,000++ v) Gen2 = RM48,000++ vi) Savvy = RM35,000++ . Proton claims Gen2 is Wira replacement and Savvy is Tiara replacement. What the hell are they talking about. They seems to replace the Honda & Toyota and expect people to buy the old Wira & Iswara with some make-up…very stupid ideas. Sacrifice your margin but don’t sacrifice the quality.

How to achieve those price?…well if Proton believe in the economic of scale, then Proton should be able to equate the price based on volume and localization become more realistic. People just look on show room prices and never think about spare parts price. Take Kancil for example, the OTR is cheap but the spare parts is more expensive than Wira. Its expensive, but the price would not be half the completed brand new car.

About the market expectation, I still remember in 1986 most Malaysians are proud of Proton Saga. At that time I was still studying. My friend told me, he drove Saga and said that Saga driveability is almost equivalent to his father’s Volvo..Hulamak!!! do you believe that….I did’nt ask him what year was his father volvo is….what ever lah…to me you will be satisfied if the price you pay worth what you expect to get. E.g you know what you will expect if you buy 29″ TV of unknown brand at RM900 as compared with RM1600 for Sharp TV. The unknown brand will definitely last earlier than the branded one….but people still buy it because the unknown brand may last quiet long…not one week but at least 3 years perhaps. For cars, if Proton can ensure at the above OTR prices the cars will not have major problems within 5 years, then market will accept it. This is how Korean do. Most Korean cars have problems after 5 years but market accept it. But I believe, they may improve it equivalent to Japanese cars. My comment, Proton never learned from mistakes. You never gain experiences….

  72. 72 Anonymous

  78. 78 Anonymous

Of course that was Proton’s history, history that made most Malaysian proud. Starts from using Mitsubishi, then Citroen and then Renault, nearly 20 years of experience, they started to build engine-Campro, racing bicycle and superbike engine (Proton KR). Then they start making their own design and accessories. Imagine the age that is so young can achieved a success like that. Who knows, in future maybe Perodua wants to produce cars, then it’s their turn to get criticise from you all people, because Malaysian attitude is always like that, they don’t like other peoples’ success.

Why keep arguing about Proton and Myvi.
I own a Nissan myself. A second hand but why not local Malaysian made cars??
Ask yourself a question. If the car of what you are driving can protects you in an accident???

I prefer Myvi, the reason being, yea is bcos of joint work from the Japanese co., which I feel is sooooo much safer.

Proton has dissapointed us in the past and I can get thru it and get a Protonm but with no Doubt, I am glad they still manage to produce some good cars like Perdana and Waja but still failed many of us with the parts they are using.

The other day there were a jokes talking to a friend:
Friend: “Buy local car arrr…. good cheap…..but no kuality leh”
Me: “Ok la…. at least their parts are cheap”
Friend: “yea lor I know wat….they say guarantee you 3 yrs…ok ok… ngam ngam 3 yrs rosak…. wat for???? But Japanese carr lerr…. can tahan for than the guarantee period la”

if proton is really honest.. .what does the body strength number means… from my experience these numbers are relative to a car’s length… so if the number is the same as BMW 5 series.. then the BMW 5 series is X times better than the savy at the ratio of the cars total length… and that by far is the actual comparison… gotta also say where it measures the deflection to get a strength number.. common proton…. you know that you cant fool people with half defined statistics… you are not the only carmaker in malaysia.. and people are educated now… so get ur marketing dept up to date in tho the 21st century and stop taking the ppl for a ride…

    I don’t agree…

  89. 89 Anonymous

And by the way, there are many other ways to advertise a car’s strength.. not by encouraging ppl to drive the bloody car blindfolded!!! its all bad taste, also if you see the new gen 2 advert, proton says that it takes 0.04s to discover how much theyve improved the gen2.. being the time taken to deploy the airbags… so proton really is encouraging ppl to drive their gen2s into wall and appreciate the airbags blowing off in their faces is it?.. I agree with a previous post.. proton is confused with its little lotus mistress and what to do with it… sure.. making an exciting car is a sign of advancement.. but what good is an exciting car when the the interior falls off.. the window just drops down due to cheap plastic power window pulleys and the engine dies in the middle of a corner.. which cutting off the power steering and people understeer and crash into the side barriers… I guess thats what proton means by “exhiliarating” products… c^mon proton… even if you want to make exciting road racing cars available for the public… dont forget the first principle of racing… “To finish first, you must first finish” just in case you proton marketing ppl still dont understand.. the public wants a safe and reliable means of transportation.. you hold the national flag and the pride of many malaysians who drive these automobiles… and do so with pride.. just be honest and clear and professional in delivering cars to the public… and another thing, how the hell do you (proton) select vendors that supply you such crap components and pass your quality standard???? what quality standard do you apply anyway??? I know i am a bit frustrated here but that example of the engine dying in the middle of the corner was one that i experienced, luckily could catch the heavy steering in time but what if a pakcik or makcik was driving… the car btw was a near brand new WAJA… just three months out of the box… I got rid of it with passion…. SAVVY UP PROTON and GROW UP!!!!

Naza ka? Oi! Naza tu tau apa.. Dia juai kereta bolehlah.. Buat kereta? Sama macam Perodua, enjin sama, body altered sikit, pastu boh nama sendiri. Car dealer pun boleh buat kereta..fuh dasyat sungguh..lama-lama driver lori pun boleh buat lori.. Dia dgn Kak Fidah sama aja.. Depa dua pakat nak lawan Proton ngan Perodua. Pikir-pikirkanlah…

So much about Proton! I have been following Proton’s development since the formation of Proton to manufacture our Malaysian car since 1980. There were so much protests and criticisms then and I was among the ones who predicted its demise although deep inside I was glad we were making grounds to make our own cars. I have observed the problems that has plagued Proton this far. What they need to look into is generally, Get the right marketing people! Get the right R&D people who know how to appreciate what the people wants! and Get the whole car to perform well, no body wants a car to stop in the middle of a road! Stop promoting a strong car, do not underestimate and insult our fellow Malaysians’ intelligence. Let the people get to feel the quality, the performance of the Proton cars and perceptions can change overtime. Right now Proton has to deal with very poor perceptions caused by the Proton people, right from the factory floor to the very top management level, but I would not blame the floor people totally, they are what you make them out to be, it is the people at the top who must get these things right. I am patriotic but feel sad that after so many years I still do not feel proud to say we have a quality Malaysian car. Deep inside, I believe Proton can one day make quality cars but please do not take too long, cos by then, when you make it, nobody wants it anymore, why? because everyone will be driving cars make from other kind of technology. You know what I mean, the hybrid ones, ceramic engine? and so forth and Proton is still dabbling with the Campro?. Then it will back to square one for Proton again. It is all about Marketing Positive Perceptions, for now Proton has a lot of work to do to change this.

Yes, they’re talking cock, but you’re the only one who sucking cock..

  93. 93 AntiJaps

You said Proton had dissapointed us? When? As far as I’m concern I saw a lot of Proton cars on our road. For example, Wira, Satria and Iswara, these car has been with us for the last 15 to 20 years but people still bought it whether it is used or brand new.
Safety? How do you know that Myvi is ’soooo much safer’? Because of it’s airbag? ABS? Come on.. even Lady Di died with her Merc. OK, let see, if your car have all the safety and suddenly you involved in an accident, your airbags come out to your face and your car plunge into the river, I think by the time you want to move the airbag from your face and at one time to open your seatbelt, you’re already dead, just imagine… The safety is in your mind, not the car.
If you don’t like local Malaysian car, why not drive your old Nissan rather than buying Myvi.
Don’t compare Proton with Perodua, Perodua has less vendors because most of their components are from Daihatsu and Toyota. Proton wants their cars to be more locally made and it’s their mistake for taking a lot of vendors for their car’s components. A lot of problems from the Proton car is not from their engine parts but mostly from the components like power windows, dashboard etc. So, the vendors gave so much problems to the Proton cars and Proton had to face problem from us. Condemn the vendors but not the car. Understand so far?

  94. 94 Anonymous

Dear monkey, how do you know that Savvy maintenance cost is high? Do you own a Savvy or Renault Clio before? Who cares if the car has low resale value. BTW what car has high resale value? You buy a brand new car today, next year you sell that car, how much do you get? Cars are not valuable, but if you buy a house, that’s different.
You said Savvy’s radiator had to mix distilled water + coolant, how much does it cost? How often do they need to refill? Everyday? How big is the radiator tank?
SOHC is an old engine? Hmm, I think Hondas and Mercedes are not a good car because it is still using SOHC.
Oi monkey! If you know nothing about cars, please don’t talk shit…

  95. 95 ProtonSuck

Hello brother, come on lah. proton in car manufacture for more than 20 years… still producing a rubbish car. think about KIA which only produce car not more than 15 years. that what my friends told me coz he been in the car industry for more than 20 years. he know very well about our national car. Perodua is different story coz they really produce a quality car as i concerned.

  96. 96 protonsuck

hey brother? r u a proton supporter or what? maybe u work in proton lah. actually, all malaysian can afford a good quality japanese or korean car. it just that the government is protecting our own national car by taxing imported car much much higher than national car. if the AFTA is applied to imported cars (japanese or korean), then the price different between imported car and national car is not much different. so, people will go for japanese or korean car instead of national car as the pricing is almost the same. i tested the savvy when it launch and feel that the quality is cheap compared to myvi. technology wise, myvi is much more better than savvy (example : ABS & AIRBAG). rigidity of Savvy body structure, i dunno lah but the advertisement is bullshit.

  97. 97 protonsuck

good comment, man… i like u… good job. keep it up (I SUPPORT U)… proton quality is really suck compared to perodua. my sister bf brought a GEN2 and guess what, the car go to proton workshop more than go to piss… haha. if i was him, i prefer to buy a second hand japanese car instead (TOYOTA, HONDA & NISSAN) which is a really good quality & realiable car. I myself own nissan sentra year 95 which give me no headache all these years. If i got money, i’m sure will go for japanese cars…. chao

  98. 98 protonsuck

come on lah… proton in this car business more than 20 years… can you see that. compare to korean KIA which on 15 years but they are produced a quality cars… please open your eyes. as u know, chinese car (China made car) is coming to town really soon and their quality is on par with proton but they only have less than 10 years experience in car manufacturing business. can you really see that. it just a matter of time proton sales will drop if the AFTA applied to imported cars.

  99. 99 protonsuck

hey stupid, the exported model to U.K is different lah.. Q.C for exported model is much much better than local proton. if not, will reject by UK, bodoh. u dunno meh this kind of things? please go back to study lah… UK QC there is very very strict. as you know, last time proton selling exported proton wira locally. WHY? because it was rejected by the PROTON UK… got it?

  100. 100 Ish!

Woi! Don’t compare Savvy with Honda Accord lah! Bodoh!

just read this on nst, thailand, our poor neighbour will become detroit of the east in 2010 , the third largest car producer after japan and china.
creating > 2 million cars , half for export and creating jobs for millions.
every foreign company brings in > us 700 million and make thailand the largest car manufacturing centre outside home country.
malaysia, proton is national pride, die for proton, dont worry about increase road accident because of poor car, dont worry all money going to thailand, just protect the well connected supplier of proton, continue the AP, continur the poor quality car and windows, continue incraseing the price, make you get loan > 9 years so you hang yuourself when bankrupt.
l am sure foreign company will employ all these companies even if proton collaspse , may be because of them, all of us get rich by more money coming in, more jobs, and cheaper cars , less life loss on road because car safer

proton savvy sales lost to myvi
    savvy ? 5500 myvi > 50 000

then they balme first time into small car bla bal, then why did u try the small car if you jnew u will rugi

then ceo resign, what happen? demand more when result still shit, excuse, not getting what deserve,

then adviser return all his proton gifts claims he tested themm.
do u need him to test your cars?

    then came AP AP
but wait AP only 30 000 cars , proton sales 155 000 actually sales of proton increase but share reduce, eh come on, give the competition a chance or else arrogant proton wont listen

then lost of profit, how to lose ? u sold more car, must be the cost of designing the two new cars and not selling well.
why is the auto versionof savvy, where is the 1.8 of gen 2 where is the srm

    then in the end
it is the arrogance, refusla to listen to customers that make things seeming bad
dont worry, big brother and proton salesman will defend.
in overseas , people can refuse, here some idiots believe we should be thank ful the proton are chaeaper and imports expensive. well they are very thick and the reason is the extra tariff and protection.
if no protection, all cars including proton will be 10 000 chaeaper.

    imagine
    peroudua < 10 000
    wira < 27 000
    iswara < 16 000
    perdana < 60 000
    waja < 28 000
wihout protection, price goes dowwn and proton needs to cut down their price so that no need to mack up price to rip customer

PROTON SAVVY. thats such a perfect CAR!!
handling kerata terbaik pernah saya rasa. dengan kelajuan 170kmj, savvy still tak begegar cam kereta malaysia lain terutama produk perodua! petrol pn jimat gile! kalau nak ckp pasal design, SAVVY agak sama dengan FIAT PUNTO. percaya laa….banyak btol persamaan! last words, SAVVY memang BEST!aku cakap camni coz aku dah beli SAVVY.TAK RUGI BEB!

  109. 109 Mr. Boggy

Actually, I dont have anything against proton. I only dont like the way they rip us malaysians off. The fact that we have lower income doesnt make things better. Immagine, people in the US: Income = USD3000 (fresh graduate) and a Honda Civic = USD20000. Thats about 6.5 or 7 months salary. Malaysia: Income MYR1800 (fresh graduate), Honda Civic = MYR120,000. Thas about 66 or 67 months salary. OK lah, bagi Potong Wila MYR50000. Thats still 27 or 28 months salary. I still remember the days when my Toyota DX cost only RM21000 (brand new) and salary was around RM1200 (17-18 months salary). When Potong came in, every imported car became more and more expensive to purchase. At first not so bad when Saga = RM21000. It only became worse when they start the Wira. RM40,000 in 1993 then to RM52000 in 1995 - this is really a rip off. Now, wnat to say sawi cheap, its still around 50K.

  110. 110 Proton VS Perdua (Alien VS Predator)

All “open minded” malaysian listen here.
This is my personal sad story…..

The reason the sales between Myvi and Savvy is because Myvi came out long time ago compare with Savvy. And Myvi just sold 40k but Savvy 45k. Plus Perodua must pay the japanese “XXXk”, you still think Myvi is a winner? actually it is a cheap cost car compare to Savvy. Cheap Plastic, Cheap Metal, and cheap performence.

A real story here, my Uncle just bought a Myvi, and he went to a trip on the car with his family. Unfortunately they meet an accident. The car crush seriously because the “body damm soft” and plus most serious problem is “air-back lauzy” like ballon. Because over confident of trust the market comment about Myvi, one of my cousin pass away because of his body get hit by the soft metal of the “idiot Myvi” as people says that perodua’s metal always like “Milo Tin”. I dono maybe my Uncle’s family are very bad luck or what.

But be honestly to everyone, please stop the topic in this forum. Keep talking is noncern, believe it or not, if you interested about the car go test drive before you use your foolish mouth to comment on it. Thanks.

saya nak bagi tahu semua engineer yang kerja kat bhg r&d proton adalah malas, bayangkan proton spent billion to built proton city, tapi product yang mereka keluarkan all are shit, and 1st of all they are copy cat,
kenapa cakap daring to change tapi nak bergantung kepada goverment, b’gantung kepada lotus, mana pergi otak kita, kenapa kita perlu bergantung kepada orang yang sapu duit kita, but then kita boleh bagi produk baik kepada rakyat kita sendiri takpayah nak market kat luarpun, tengok lah kat india mereka masih lagi guna kereta jenis ‘ammbasador’ sampai sekarang adalah model yang lapuk, but the idea are their own… kita mesti kena pakai idea kita sendiri supaya kita baru boleh tahu dimana tahap kita…. proton malas, beli idea orang lain, then go head, and keep on telling they have 80 engineers…….macam mahatir kata melayu malas, memang betul, bayangkan jika kerajaan tidak berpihak kepada kita, sudah lama kita jadi hamba…. ok sekarang cara proton beli parts, mereka akan buka tender suruh orang quote, kalau tender tu sendiri mahu ingatlaaa….sebab itu kita tidak dapat produk yang qualiti…mana pergi qc engineers proton…semua dah kena suap….. salah adalah kita….jangan pula tuduh pihak lain…..dunia sekarang menghadapi globalisasi so PROTON please start to do something..baru2 ni saya ada dengar proton sedang cari kereta ganti bagi perdana dan modelnya adalah mitsubishi A380…..kita tahu kenapa mereka mahu copy produck orang lain….kerana save cost…and make profit….but its all the same when you calculate….but try to make your own idel i tell you u can gain in the market back…i think all of u agree with my opinion

Savvy? Well dari segi paras rupa, depan - macho.Belakang, a little bit kureng.Patut bumper biar plain & utk plate number tu biar kat boot.
MyVi? Pun depa cun, belakang - macam jeep Jerman perang dunia ke dua.Pulak tu kelihatan macam pakai “skirt”
Performance? Tentunya Savvy.Walaupun MyVi 1.3 tapi kacang ajer utk Savvy memotong. Body Savvy is better.Solid.After all, it’s not easy to pass the TUV!!! Setakat ni Savvy is the only Proton’s car yang tiada masalah from their first batch compared to the rest. Tengok ajer bunyi pintunya bila ditutup.Mampat!! Bunyi macam kereta continental. Great work Proton. They start to improve their kelemahan yg dah bertahun. Give Tuan Syed Zainal & his team a chance to have ‘wind of change’ in Proton!

what la u all ni… mmg buta kare betul kalo yg kutuk proton tu.. talking about quality…mmg proton is trying their best to develop the best design.. day to day they are trying to improve their failure in developing cars for rakyats…u said that savvy mahal 45k compared to Myvi that cost only 40k,butlet think back, perodua have to pay back japan around xxxk, so just imagine how mucha myvi cost, cheaper than savvy rite, why…cost they are using cheap components……..so..apa ksimpulannya kalo savvy vs myvi now..u can calculate the cost and predit the winner..

talk about malaysian cars… i hate them most… is not a malaysian made… who said?? the engine was desinged by japanese…or european.. how dare u said its malaysian cars..wat a shame… shame urself before admit it’s a malaysian car

  124. 124 mushpop

lol..im not hating the cars but the policies behind national cars. if import duties wasn’t raised so much most national car makers wont sell their products like today. first of, they taking up low-quality/reject parts from their gurus - mits, daihatsu, citroen, renault and what so ever. like proton itself, to me they never improve a bit in producing better and safer car. proton waja was rated 3 star car. Look tough and big but rated 3 stars because the crash test said so. The Gen-2 - just rolled out from the factory but now it is hitting so much complaints. Some europe countries sent our exported car back - lack of quality. We should be ashamed. Not talking about Perodua, worst but they improved better than proton. Now our national cars are ‘rojak’ one but still very low quality indeed. Don’t talk about Naza. I just threw up when i saw the Bestari (Peugoet 206). They called themself ‘NATIONAL CAR MAKER’ but by taking other people stuff? What a lame! I don’t know when will our car maker design a car from scratch without even copycat some car designs. About the engine part, Proton should be able to CREATE new one rather than implementing. Proton has been in the industry quite long but what can we see? - refurbished iswara, tiara, refurbished wira, juara, arena, refurbished perdana, waja, savvy. Looking back at the chronology, we still didn’t improved much. Guys who used new iswara, wira cars think back. Those cars has been piled up at the factory field for years. I like to see major improvement not little one. We are still 20 years behind major carmaker. Bad, too bad.

  125. 125 mushpop

Past Proton CEO was business-minded person. He doesnt care about quality but quantity. Current Proton CEO was said to be wise person in term of rebuilding proton quality. No more tiny tin cars please. Yes savvy is expensive from myvi but why the car should look awfull? with cramped back seat space. worst taste interior. Actually, i would like to see our national car is designed from scratch then i can call it MALAYSIA CAR else just MADE IN MALAYSIA car. Malaysian car makers still not ready for the global market if they still behave like this.

  126. 126 anti-proton

I made a biggest mistake by purchasing your so called ‘malaysia boleh’ Proton Waja. The name WAJA should represent its characteristic like besi waja - tough. After the first accident, the I realized that the damn car is made of MILO Aluminium can. You want to know what car is tough and safe? I just bought two of them. Its VOLVO 122S, both manufactured in 1965!. If you never heard or seen this car, ask any old timer or better still ask your fathers. Would you believe the piston hasn’t been changed for 40 damn years. And that is besi WAJA. To all of you out there thinking of buying a car, please…..please don’t buy proton. Buy VOLVO coz it is the worlds safesty car. Last but not least “PRACTICE SAFE SEX…MAKE LOVE IN A VOLVO”

  127. 127 darkneill

i own a savvy r3 zerokit , just got it not more than 2 week. it is a good car for the quality we have to wait and see.

  128. 128 noob

    buy a lorry then noob

  129. 129 Mr NK

Well mr anti-proton, only few malaysian are as rich as you. Despite all ‘attacks’ on proton cars’ quality , you will always see lots of proton on the road. You should ask them why they bought their proton.

I own a wira and a savvy, before that an iswara and before that a saga.

Why I bought proton and not perodua?
it is simply because I need a car, not a sardin can.

Why didn’t I get a MyVi instead of the Savvy?
I love the AMT. Its really fun.

Why didnt i get a honda or kia or even a volvo?
Whatever for? I’d better off saving the tens of thousands of ringgit price different into my ASB/ASN and watch it double itself.

How do i cope with the quality?
Proton parts can be found anywhere in Malaysia. And comparing to imported cars, the price is far much lower.

  130. 130 RC

So much talk but no action yet. Let’s see what happens with this new man in action. I see soo quiet so far.

And for those who keep on attacking proton so much, lets just say proton survives for the next 100 years, what constructive feedbacks can you give to make them a better manufacturer.

    My advise to Proton,
There are only 2 basic ways to establish competitive advantage:
Do things better than others or Do things differently.

  131. 131 DK

Wow…to my amazement there are so many critics shot at PROTON. Well, I dare not say that PROTONs are lousy because for them to come up with an almost 80% original design is a not something you can opt for a car manufacturer who’s just about 23 years of age…and fully bassed in our highly corrupted nation, Malaysia…top ten corrupted nation. Imagine for every parts PROTON purchased…maybe 50% is used to fund the big-shots around.

Does anybody know that most car manufacturers now moves their production/part of their production to China? It’s a lot cheaper there but our poor PROTON had to keep it’s manufacturing plants here…why? To keep you and your neighbours employed…so u and your kids don’t go dig the dumbsters for food…it’s like a food chain, you move one company out of the country…other company will lack a client, and PROTON plays a rather huge role in this chain. I’ll give a simple illustration:

    Rubber tappers –> Logistics –> Pre-processed latex –> Logistics –> Fully-processed rubber door seals –> Logistics –>PROTON.

If PROTON don’t buy Malaysian rubber products, 6 others in the chain will suffer the consequences. That’s just rubber, what about metal, glass, plastics, fabrics?

Wanna blame someone, don’t shoot at the people in proton, building a car is probably 100 times more difficult than building a house. Its 2nd most complex engineering after aerospace industry…I myself study engineering, so i know.

And btw, Perodua’s share is mostly in Daihatsu’s hand…its just a business tactic used by the Japs to cheat our stupid people by thinking that its a local car. So as it is with Naza. Yeah I know, its globalisation era…so what? If u can’t support your national car…why the hell u live here?

    This one goes to anti-proton:

How do u judge safety? The very fact that you have sent a reply after your crash involving your WAJA…simply means that your WAJA has saved your ungratefull life. You should have just died in the crash to prove that WAJA is not safe…its not too late, you can still commit suicide. I’m waiting for your orbituary in the paper…go on, what are you waiting for?

Some people just don’t understand what safety really means. Now most new-age cars have “crash-zones” in which part of the car crumple to absorb as much impact as possible to minimize passenger injury. But for a volvo, its a different story…they believe in rock solid body panels to achieve safety. But in engineering wise this technique is considered primitive engineering as rock solid body panels weigh more. To move a heavier metal, obviously more fuel is needed!!

Besides all that, he lost the comfort of a WAJA…care to go to this website to see how obsolete the 122s is: http://www.volvoadventures.com/122Sspec.html
I’m kinda sceptical whether 122s still has spare parts around…if they do, maybe double that of a WAJA’s.

here’s a constructive criticism….the car needs a little more power, itz slightly underpowered…probably due 2 its weight(gross weight over 1 tonne!!).dun reduce d weight coz the car is solid this way.d engine is kinda noisy too after 3500 rpm, i hope d engineers at proton can somehow make it quieter in d later models. besides dat, everything else are not bad….not a bad start 4 our national car company….
