According to a Betanews post, the IM giants Microsoft and Yahoo are expected to announce a “blockbuster” interoperability. With such deal, users of each network will be able to connect to the users of the other network for using text and voice chat free of charge.
Such interoperability was made possible long time ago by software like Trillian and Gaim, but it was limited to text chat only.
With the deal, Microsoft and Yahoo now command 44 percent of the IM market.
