The time has finally come. For many years, hackers around the around have requested Sun Microsystems to open source Java. Being free is apparently not enough for them.
And now, Sun has announced that they have made Java a free software under the GNU General Public License version two (GPLv2). The open source Java now has a home here.
Besides, Sun is alsoadding the GPLv2 license to its Java Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE), which has been available for over a year under the Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL) through Project GlassFish.
