Freedom Toaster

This gigantic toaster is associated with open source software, and no, neither it uses open source software to prepare the toast, nor it runs on open source operating system.

Getting free software isn’t easy as it may sound, especially for those living in Africa where fast broadband access isn’t always an option. The Freedom Toaster is a conveniently located, self-contained ‘Bring ‘n Burn’ facility, where users bring their own blank discs and make copies of the open source software they require.

Some of the software it currently serves: Ubuntu Linux, Mandriva Linux, Fedora Core 3/4 and OpenOffice.org. Want a free software? Just bring along a blank CD.
