Effects of being dugg, Del.icio.us-ed, Furled, Spurled, Metafiltered, Lockergnomed and Weblogsinc-ed

My post about using google to find warez got a little bit popular recently. It got dugg, del.icio.us-ed, furled, spurled, Metafiltered (not quiet, will explain in a while), Lockergnomed, Linkswarmed, Robotwisdom and Weblogsinc-ed, among other things.

And now, the effects.

Note: This article is on digg. If you like the story, please digg it.

Before I begin, let me tell you that this blog is new. I used to blog at my previous domain www.visa.com.my. Yeah, nice name, but that upset Visa International’s lawyer. So they decided to send me a cease and desist letter, after I had been using that domain for 3 years, telling me that I had infringed their trademark, despite the fact that the site obviously looked and behaved like a technical blog. So they got the domain back, and they refused to give me a replacement domain. Remarkable.

Ok, back to the story. Since this site is very new, the direct and search engine hits are still very low. It is therefore good to study the effects of being linked. Below is the snapshot of the statistic, click on it for the enlarged version.

1. Digg
Just like the stock price of a struggling pharmaceutical company which discovers the cure of AIDS, the traffic skyrocketted when the news broke. Digg was the first to bring in the crowds. It first started to bring in some people looking for things to digg on. And the traffic surged as soon as there were enough diggs to bring the story to the front page. Click the image below to expand the referrer statistics when the story made its way to the front page of Digg.

2. Del.icio.us
The story was bookmarked by many del.icio.us users too (close to 500 as of this time of writing). And it too made its way to the most popular page, and it stayed on top of chart almost the whole day. This has a very remarkable result. Many sites syndicate the RSS feed of del.icio.us’s popular page. As a result, the story appears as a link in many sites overnight. This brings long lasting results. Unlike the sudden surge of traffic generated by digg, which almost disappeared when the story gradually exit the front page, I now still see incoming hits from del.icio.us.

Another interesting thing to know is Populicio.us, a popular del.icio.us-based service.

3. Metafilter
The story was picked up by Metafilter too. However, it was soon removed from the first page because of the racist joke made by the person who posted the story. Stupid. The story can still be accessed indirectly here.

4. Others
Please refer to the referrer chart below.

5. RSS subscribers
RSS readers are something you don’t want to miss. By subscribing to your RSS, it shows that you have interested a visitor and you have successfully turned a visitor into a regular customer. Ok, reader. And I don’t remember when is the last time I erase a RSS feed from my Bloglines account.

Below is the number of my feed subscriber as according to Feedburner. And I’m grateful for the increment. It stands at 130 subscribers as of this time of writing.

6. Google AdSense
I guess this is the part that would interest you most. Since I’m allowed to disclose how much I earn (but not the CTR details), here you go.

So, in other words, Google the publishers have paid me 20 dollars to write that article. Not bad.

Now you want to subscribe to me feed, don’t you? :)

“the publishers have paid me 20 dollars to write that article”

With an eCPM of around $12 (which is 25% less than what i get on my network of sites) you would have earned about $500 instead of $20. Try Perfect Adsense for tips on how to boost adsense revenue. After I visited that site my earnings jumped 4-fold. Nice Job on your site!
