
As part of a major rebranding, Intel will be dumping its 37-year-old logo. The famous “Intel Inside” will be gone and be replaced by “Leap ahead”. Yonah will be called ‘Core Solo’ for the single core processor, the dual core Pentium M will have the label ‘Core Duo’.

Following reports of overheating, Dell has recently announced the plan of voluntarily recalling and offering free replacements for certain notebook batteries that pose a risk of fire as a result of overheating. The affected batteries were sold with some models of Dell Latitude, Inspiron and Precision line of laptops, and were manufactured in China and Japan.
Two months ago, HP similarly has recalled 135,000 laptop batteries (info).

Beware for those who depend on online dating websites to find the perfect love. Because you might end up ‘dating’ employee of theirs.
Match.com, a unit of IAC/Interactive Corp., is accused in a federal lawsuit of goading members into renewing their subscriptions through bogus romantic e-mails sent out by company employees. In some instances, the suit contends, people on the Match payroll even went on sham dates with subscribers as a marketing ploy.
Yahoo is also being accused of falsiying the number of potential dating partners to make it look as though many more singles subscribe to the service than actually do.
Both companies choose to have no comment about the lawsuits.

Intel has unveiled Robson, a technology that could significantly reduces the time it takes for a notebook PC to power up or access programs.
The key to this success is the use of nonvolatile NAND flash memory. Instead of booting from the hard drive, laptop with Robson technology would read from the flash memory, which is much faster and consumes battery power too.

Attention if you own a HP laptop.
HP has recently recalled 135,000 laptop batteries after the company has received 16 reports of battery melting which 4 of them causing damage to the laptops. Affected customers will receive the new battery in 5 to 10 days and will be given a postage-paid envelope to return the old battery to HP.

U.S. crude oil futures soared nearly $5 a barrel in opening trade to touch a fresh peak of $70.80 a barrel as one of the country’s biggest storms, Katrina tore through the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, forcing 40% of oil producers and refiners to shut down operations.

Due to the fact that VOIP users can’t connect with a live emergency dispatch operator when calling 911, the FCC has set a Monday deadline for providers of Internet-based telephone calls to get acknowledgments from their VOIP customers that they understand the problems they may encounter when dialing 911 in an emergency. Users who fail to respond will have their service disconnected next week.

Are you an online game addict? Now here is the good (bad) news. To prevent the people from becoming addicted to online games, the Chinese government has unveiled a new system to prevent individuals from playing online games for more than three consecutive hours, and that system is going to be installed for every online game in the country.
The new system will cut the ability level of a player’s online game character by half after 3 consecutive hours of gameplay, and will further cut it to the lowest level allowed by the game after 5 consecutive hours of gameplay.
