Apple announces Intel-based iMac


Apple has unveild Intel-based iMac at Macworld 2006. The new iMac features a Core Duo processor running at 1.83 or 2.0 GHz that Apple claims to give a performance boost of more than 100%.

WW2 bomber over Huntingdon, England


When a man was trying to look up his house with Google Earth, he spotted something unusual - a WorldWar 2 bomber in action.

The Lancaster in question is the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s “City of Lincoln”, as discussed in this thread.

Flight 93


Flight 93 is a film about one of the four commercial hijacked airlines in the 9/11 event. It is directed by Paul Greengrass, the director of hit movie The Bourne Supremacy.

Sony Ericsson W810


Sony Ericsson has announced the new Walkman cellphone. Dubbed Sony Ericsson W810, this new model is a quad-band phone supporting two major U.S. frequencies (the 850 and 1900 Mhz bands) and the two international bands (900 and 1800 Mhz bands), making it an ideal phone to be carried around. It also supports EDGE for higher-speed data transmission.

Like the W800, it comes with a Memory Stick Pro Duo slot, pre-loaded with a 512MB memor stick, which is upgradeable to 2GB. Its internal memory of 20MB is used to hold ringtones, applications and photos).

Google Pack

Love the free Google software but hate to download them individually? Google has recently launched Google Pack that packs “a free collection of essential software” into a package that installs and updates the software with a single common interface.

So far Google has added Google Earth, Picasa, Google Pack Screensaver, Google Desktop, Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox with Google Toolbar, Norton Antivirus 2005 Special Edition, Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal and Adobe Reader.

I see more of Google invasion into the desktop.

Jumpy Australian marks New Year with ups (and downs)


How did you celebrate the new year? Went to a street party? Watched fireforks from far? For Australian Gary Cunningham, he welcomed the arrival of the new year by jumping off the tallest telecommunication tower in Malaysia - 133 times.

Out to set a record for the most BASE jumps performed in 24 hours, the-34-year-old engineer started at midnight as December 31 began and finished up as fireworks exploded in the sky to mark the new year.

Xing Ba Ke? No, it’s Starbucks!

In China and Taiwan, Starbucks is known to the Chinese as Xing Ba Ke, in which Xing means Star in mandarin and Ba Ke is a phonetic rendition of “bucks”. That’s why Starbucks got so annoyed when its competitor decided to register the name “Xingbake” and run a coffee business. The court has recently ruled that Shanghai Xingbake has infringed the copyright of Starbucks and ordered the company to pay the real Starbucks 500,000 yuan (~$62,000) in damages.
